Coral Gables Garden Club Holds Garden Therapy Session At Crystal Academy

Official Press Release of the Coral Gables Garden Club

The Coral Gables Garden Club was at the Crystal Academy, located at 107 Antilla Avenue, Coral Gables, Fl on February 13th to have yet another fun filled garden therapy session with the students at the school and to create a gift for the students’ parents just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Garden Therapy is an outreach program that the garden club has been sharing with residents since 1925 and has now included the kids from Crystal Academy which teaches children with disabilities.  Chair Carmen Cason has been organizing this committee for the club, for the last several years and is most rewarding for the members of the club.  “I am glad I have had this opportunity to organize this event with Crystal Academy. The kids really enjoy putting the flowers together, they all were so happy, with their stickers and flowers asking for more, it was very rewarding.”

Maria Palacio the administrator of the school told the group “The last time the Garden Club came to the school, in October 2022 to have an activity, the kids and staff enjoyed it so much, we planted a flower garden at the school.” She continued to say that the parents and staff appreciate the time the club spends with their students making flower arrangements and how this activity brings smiles to their faces. “That’s the biggest reward of all, that our efforts inspired the staff and students to plant a flower garden and to create a happy experience for these kids.” says club President Susan Rodriguez.

The Coral Gables Garden Club giving back to the community has always been a part of its 98-year history.  The organization is a 501c-3 focused on city beautification, educating the residents on horticulture, floral design, and environmental issues. The scholarship program is established to encourage the development of research, documentation, and teaching skills in the fields of horticulture, botany, landscape design, conservation, environmental studies, sea-level rise, coral reef restoration, or any other natural science subject.

For the club to continue doing outreach programs like Garden Therapy, award scholarships, and all of the other environmental and conservation projects, the club has to fundraise.  The biggest fundraiser is Friday, March 10th, which is the Fashions & Florals Spring Luncheon at the Biltmore Hotel.  If you would like to support the club and purchase a ticket, click on this link, Fashions & Florals.
