Looking for plans for this Saturday? Coral Gables has you covered! The City of Coral Gables will host its first annual Family Literacy Festival this Saturday, May 29 from 11:00AM to 4:00PM at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center.

The event was crafted by the City’s School Community Relations Committee in order to promote reading and education during the summer months. Planning has been in the works for months and the City’s Community Recreation Department has taken the lead on preparing this weekend’s event.

The City posted the following about the event: “Embark on a literacy journey and join us under the Youth Center tree canopy at 405 University Drive for a daylong celebration and book fair on Saturday, May 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In an effort to promote summer reading and the literary arts the festival will provide a unique experience for all ages and abilities and include the following:

  • Outdoor Scholastic Book Fair for ages k-8
  • Literacy vendors and screenings
  • Food trucks
  • Petting zoo
  • Photobooth
  • Magical Park AR Game
  • Crafts and Storytime”

For those who cannot attend in person, many online resources are already available at the City’s website for the event: https://www.coralgables.com/departments/CommunityRecreation/GablesLiteracyFestival.

A virtual book fair is also taking place starting May 24th and ending on June 6th.

Parking will be available on the corner of Camillo Avenue and University Drive. (See map below).
