The staff, the consultants and most of all the commissioners have heard enough from the residents who are against the rezoning. However , they are totally oblivious if not deaf to their pleas. Why else would they be orchestrating another meeting , but only to appear transparent. They have made up their minds and will rush it through under the dark veil of COVID.
Please vet your next incoming two commissioners before voting for them. Watch out for the hidden meaning in the language of their mailings such as SMART DEVELOPMENT , CONTROLLED DEVELOPMENT, REVITALIZING DOWNTOWN, words synonymous with DEVELOPMENT.
The next step to consider in retaliation for a commission approval of the changes in the zoning would be a referendum to implement height restrictions in the future as was done by residents of Bal Harbor in 2006 and reaffirmed this year. Better yet we should start collecting signatures to recall our commissioners who vote in favor. It has not been done despite their development fervor, but there is always a first time.
