The Miami Marlins have had a great week. Spring Training has gotten off to a 6-0 start for the club in Jupiter, where the team is watching its young core of players and newly acquired veterans prepare for the upcoming season scheduled to start on March 26th against the Philadelphia Phillies at Marlins Park.
They also announced this week that Marlins Park would once again play host to the World Baseball Classic, and this Classic’s championship game will be played in Miami.
The World Baseball Classic was first played in 2006. At the time, the Marlins were playing at Sun Life Stadium (now Hardrock Stadium) and they hosted one series during the first round. This was also the case in 2009.
In 2013, the Marlins hosted the WBC at Marlins Park, this time hosting Pool B in the second round. They hosted Pool C in 2017.
For 2021, the Marlins ownership group made the World Baseball Classic a priority and they worked to ensure Marlins Park played a larger role, and their efforts paid off.
Marlins Park will host a pool in the first round, a pool in the second round, as well as the championship game.
The World Baseball Classic is slated to be played March 9-23, 2021.
