The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notified the public on Monday, February 7th, of recalls by Hyundai Motor America and Kia Motors.
The recall notice explains that, “the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) module could malfunction and cause an electrical short, which could result in an engine compartment fire.”
Both manufacturers use the same part on select model vehicles.
Affected Models
Recalled models include:
- 2014-2015 Hyundai Tucson
- 2014-2016 Kia Sportage
- 2016-2018 Hyundai Santa Fe
- 2016-2018 Kia K900
- 2017-2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
- 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL
A total of 126,747 Kias are potentially affected and 357,830 Hyundais.
Hyundai Remedy
“Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS multifuse, and inspect and replace the ABS module, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 5, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 218.”
Kia Remedy
“Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will install a new fuse for the HECU circuit board, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 31, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC227.”
