At 2:00PM today, the City of Coral Gables officially declared a State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
City officials met this afternoon and the City has decided to cancel special events until further notice. The City is cancelling its Farmer’s Market, Employee of the Year Breakfast, as well as closing the Adult Activity Center, Coral Gables Merrick House, Venetian Pool and the City’s passport office effective 5:00PM today.
The City is also cancelling all quasi-judicial board meetings for March and all advisory board and committee meetings are cancelled until further notice.
The War Memorial Youth Center and the Tennis Center will remain open until further notice.
Public transportation will continue as scheduled, but the City assures that additional cleaning measures are being taken to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Our Governments, state, local and federal are not conveying a consistent message about what residents should do about the virus. The CDC says we should not congregate in groups of more than 10, Dr. Fauci says don’t go to restaurants, the Governor of New York closes all restaurants and bars. Yet, our governor provides no guidance and Miami-Dade government sends an opposite message by allowing restaurants and bars to stay open until 11:00 implying that it is OK to go to restaurants and bars until 11:00. Which is it; should we follow CDC and Dr. Fauci’s advice and refrain from frequenting restaurants and bars or that of our state and local officials who indicate there is no danger to frequent restaurants and bars as long as you leave by the bewitching hour – 11:00 P.M.
Incredible.
