Follow Me To The One On Sunset

Just six months after Swensen’s closed its doors after 44 years, Coral Gables has a new restaurant at that is sure to bring the nostalgia back!

The One On Sunset” opened its doors the last week of October at the former Swensen’s location (1586 South Dixie Hwy).

The menu is full of some of the old favorites and a bevy of new options that are sure to make very member of your party excited to share a meal there.

Family Owned

The restaurant is owned by husband and wife duo, Dimitris and Patricia Harvalis. They are also the owners of Elia Cafe at Pinecrest, a fresh Greek inspired cafe on the grounds of the Pinecrest Branch Library.

Dimitris told Gables Insider that when he walked into the Swensen’s location, he knew this was the place he wanted to open his restaurant. They worked tirelessly for several months, cleaning and removing the layers of carpet, which revealed a perfect porcelain hexagon tile floor which brought a new brightness to the room. A fresh coat of paint on the walls and some recess lighting provide for a refreshed look that still preserves the old Tiffany lamps and traditional booths and tables that made Swensen’s the cool place to be for University of Miami students out to get a meal and families out for a milkshake or ice cream.

The Menu

The menu preserves some of the traditional options such as burgers and sandwiches, but incorporates some incredible homemade Greek hummus, wraps, healthy bowls and a great deal of great tasting options for every member of the family.

The milkshakes are back with 23 flavors to choose from. Gluten free, sugar free, lactose free, Lactaid milk, Oat milk, Almond milk options available.

Their ice cream and gelato are homemade.

The desert menu also includes a variety of options including Baklava, sugar free chocolate cake, creme brulé and key lime pie, just to name a few.

You no longer have to wait for a server either. The One On Sunset uses digital technology with a tabletop tablet that allows you to order what you want, when you want it, with menu options you can see pictures of before you order.

But don’t worry, the personal touch is not lost. The friendly staff is always checking on you with a smile and ready to help!

  1. The tablet was super easy to use. The food was super fresh and delicious. Dimitris was the cook when we were there and he came out to check if everything was good. Leave room for the ice cream. It was awesome!
