Solid Waste Fees Increasing For Fiscal Year 2019-20

Coral Gables residential property owners will see a slight increase in their solid waste bill for Fiscal Year 2019-20, beginning on October 1, 2019. The proposed increases are as follows:
Early Payment Single Family – Currently $756 increasing to $762
Regular Payment Single Family – Currently $886 increasing to $894

The increase is a pass-through due to a rise of Miami-Dade County waste processing facility tipping fees.

At the June 11th City Commission meeting, City Manager Peter Iglesias said the city currently subsidizes 28.5% of solid waste bills.

Residential property owners can pay their solid waste bill early and in full for a savings of over $100 on or before August 15, 2019 and be removed from the Tax Assessment Roll.

  1. How about cutting costs/service, trash pick up 1x per week instead of 2x should cut costs in half–just have large bins. Also cut yard/debris pick-up to 2x per month or just monthly as well. This should be included in our property taxes (thus tax deductible) and streamline collection through yearly property bill which collect property taxes and other fees.

  2. Our fees are increasing while our quality of services has been noticeable decreasing?! I don’t follow how this is acceptable.

  3. Is the garbage collection fee a tax deduction as is real estate tax? Please advise as this could effect how and when people will pay the fee.

  4. the city should start to arrange proper bidding instead of selecting from the only truck chassis dealer year after year. of the 5 southeastern counties in south florida, to my knowledge, only coral gables has purchased this type garbage trucks.

  5. …………………………………………

Is it still this city’s position that residents pay their full garbage collection fee in one payment…despite many residents living with very limited budgets….or are installment options available to help those Coral Gables citizens cope with such overwhelming burdens ?
