Suspect Extradited To Face 2018 Coral Gables Sexual Battery Charges

Coral Gables Police Department released the following information earlier today on the arrest and extradition from Panama of Werner Orozco who is facing sexual battery charges from 2018, in Coral Gables:

“Today, Werner Orozco who was arrested in August 2018 on a sexual battery charge by the Coral Gables Police Department was extradited from Panama and returned to the United States. He was transported to the Coral Gables Police Department and booked into Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) Correctional Center.

‘The return of Orozco to face charges is a result of the outstanding work and close cooperation between the offices of U.S. MarshalGaddy Seralta, State Attorney Kathy Fernandez Rundle and Coral Gables Police Detectives,’ said Coral Gables Police Chief Edward Hudak. ‘I salute all involved in returning Orozco to face charges. Most significantly this arrest is important for the victim who has been awaiting justice for more than two years.’

When arrested, Orozco was an undocumented immigrant. He was later deported to his native Guatemala without the knowledge of the Coral Gables Police Department and the State prosecutors.

The U.S. Marshals were able to successfully track and apprehend him with the help of the Miami area community after reading the story in the local media almost a year ago. He is expected to face charges of Sexual Battery.”
