Coral Gables Declares State Of Emergency And Curfew Amid Civil Unrest

On Sunday, May 31st at 4:05PM, Mayor Raul Valdes-Fauli declared a State of Emergency in the City of Coral Gables.

Under the State of Emergency, “The City Manager is hereby ordered to take whatever prudent and lawful actions are necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community. The City Manager is directed to coordinate with other governmental agencies to ensure that the City’s actions are consistent with the emergency management plans for Miami-Dade County. The City Attorney is directed to provide legal interpretations regarding this order and the authority provided hereunder.”

The State of Emergency comes after looting and riots took place in Miami on Saturday, following peaceful protests in Coral Gables and Downtown Miami due to the brutal death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis Police Officer.

Mayor Valdes-Fauli also signed an order issuing a citywide curfew, which will be in effect from 9:00PM to 6:00AM every night. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has also implemented a countywide curfew during the same hours.
