As previously reported, the 2020 Induction Class was scheduled to be inducted in 2020. Due to COVID-19, the ceremony finally took place on Friday, November 5th.
The event was a collaboration between Coral Gables Senior High School and the Friends of Gables High to ensure these stellar Coral Gables Senior High alumni and community members finally received their well deserved recognition.
The Inductees included: Lizette Calderon ’92, Stuart Grossman ’64, Roy Sekoff ’77, Coach Jim Simpson and Ron Yacoub ’92. You can read more about the inductees by clicking here.
Unfortunately, Coach Jim Simpson was unable to make it, but former college and professional football player, Ralph Ortega (Class of ’71), who is a member of the CGHS Hall of Fame, spoke on Simpson’s behalf. Although not an alumni, Simpson was this year’s teacher or administrator who made a difference in student’s lives. Four-time Major League Baseball All-Star and member of the 2003 Florida Marlins (now Miami Marlins) World Championship team and Most Valuable Player of the 2007 Boston Red Sox World Championship team, Mike Lowell (Class of ’92), who is also Coral Gables Senior High School Hall of Fame member, introduced honoree Ron Yacoub.
The event featured the Coral Gables Senior High’s Gablettes, the JROTC, and the school’s Cheerleaders. (Photos courtesy of Friends of Gables High).
The event was closed to the public, but Friends of Gables High offered members of the community a front-row seat through a live-stream on their Instagram account. (@_friendsofgables_).
