Chartered on March 4, 1946, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables is celebrating 75 years of Service to the community. Rotary is an international organization with more than 1.3 million members in some 200+ countries. The Coral Gables Club is part of Rotary District 6990 which comprises Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties and Grand Bahama Island with more than 2,300 members in 56 Clubs. Rotary provides service to others, promotes integrity, and advances world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
Internationally, Coral Gables works in concert with Alfalit International on literacy projects in Latin America; constructed fresh water wells in Haiti, provided water filtration for the Dominican Republic, sent wheel chairs to Honduras and Shelter Boxes everywhere, provided new equipment for the Children’s Hospital in Cartagena, provided solar lights to remote villages in Guatemala, and many other worthwhile projects.
Locally, the Club’s Scholarship Program provides thousands of dollars to deserving students at Coral Gables High School each year. They have funded a new rehabilitation facility at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, established a day care center for low income kids in partnership with the YMCA, raised money for the Miami Project and Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, Shake-A-Leg, and other projects. They are willing volunteers with many charitable organizations including VA Hospital, Coastal Cleanup, Special Olympics, Alzheimer’s Association and more.
In honor of their 75th Birthday Celebration … their Diamond Jubilee, Rotary Club of Coral Gables is presenting a virtual silent auction of incredible Diamond Jewelry. The auction opened on Valentine’s Day and will close at 5:00 p.m. on March 4th. The winners of each piece will be announced at a gala, virtual birthday party that evening. The money that is raised through this auction will be used to fund many more worthwhile projects here in Coral Gables and Miami Dade including Actors’ Playhouse Youth Arts Program, Children’s Dental Clinic and a number of ongoing international projects currently on the horizon.
